International School Unions/Programs

The Council of International Schools (CIS)...

... a membership community committed to quality international education.

The Council of International Schools (CIS) is a global non-profit membership organisation that provides services to elementary and secondary schools, higher education institutions and individuals focused on international education that have the following in common:

a desire to provide students with the knowledge, skills and abilities to pursue their lives as global citizens; and

a commitment to high quality education

To achieve this goal, our members must infuse international and intercultural perspective into their programmes and offerings so that students can move forward with the attitudes and understanding that will provide them with a solid base wherever their studies or work may take them. Elementary and secondary school members must further commit to undertaking an ongoing quality assurance process to enhance student learning.

Our Mission and Vision:

The Council of International Schools is a not-for-profit membership association of schools and post-secondary institutions. CIS defines standards and provides services that support the continuous improvement of international education.

CIS will support member institutions with an integrated portfolio of services that are world-class, professional and competitive.

Learning Assistance Programme

When you're young, learning can be a delight or a difficulty. Some young people are challenged by their inability to express themselves, or they hide their feelings behind a shield of self doubt. Some have a feeling of isolation, some a sense of being behind the other students, while others are more able than the rest of their peers. These barriers can be very real and children and young people often need extra personal or academic enrichment and support, as well as the opportunity to spend time in a caring atmosphere with someone they can trust.

The Learning Assistance Programme (LAP) provides the safe and well-structured framework for this to happen. Schools are able to harness the untapped resources of their communities - their parents, grandparents, senior students, old scholars and community members. These special mentors work on a one-to-one basis with the same student every week.

On behalf of the Executive Committee of the LAP Association, welcome to this new LAP site. We trust you will find the information and services included in the site to be of value to you as you enjoy your LAP journey,

21st Century Learning Expectations

Effective schools identify core values and beliefs about learning that function as explicit foundational commitments to students and the community. Decision-making remains focused on and aligned with these critical commitments. Core values and beliefs manifest themselves in research-based, school-wide 21st century learning expectations. Every component of the school is driven by the core values and beliefs about learning and supports all students' achievement of the school's learning expectations. (from the Overview for Standard 1)
